The purpose of IASTM is to relieve “congestion” in the muscle tissue. By using this technique to break up adhesions to the fascia, the patient enjoys a smoother muscle contraction, decreased tension and pain relief. This technique is beneficial to reducing inflammation and treating conditions such as headache, migraine, neck, shoulder, back, and knee pain. The patient may see some bruising and may be sore after the treatment. However, it is short lived. Improvement combined with the chiropractic adjustment is usually quite dramatic in reducing pain and increasing function.
